Riverbank and Newbank, Salford
Alucobond® Facades & Bespoke Ventilated Doors
Riverbank and Newbank are sixteen-storey 1960s social housing tower blocks in Salford, Greater Manchester. In 2014-15 they were brought up to 21st century standards in a major refurbishment project conducted by Salix Homes with Emmanuel Whittaker as main contractor. At a cost of £6.6M, the project involved thorough internal modernisation, as well as external wall insulation and cladding.
JWD Architectural Aluminium’s role in the project was the fabrication and installation of bespoke manufactured Alucobond® facades, covering the areas between windows and creating a key visual feature on the finished buildings. JWD also manufactured louvre-ventilated gas meter cupboard doors, finished in grey polyester powder coated aluminium.
The Alucobond® composite cladding medium chosen was from the company’s ‘Spectra’ range, which is ‘two-tone’; i.e.: it shifts colour – in this case, from orange to gold – as the eye passes over it.
